"A Lifetime of Preparation" Captain 'Sully' Sullenberger
Captain Chesley Sullenberger is well known for his actions on 15 January, 2009 while in command of US Airways Flight 1549, a commercial passenger flight enroute from New York to Charlotte NC. Shortly after take off a flock of geese struck the aircraft disabling both engines. Quickly realizing that it would be impossible to make an emergency landing at any nearby airport he made the decision to ditch the aircraft in the Hudson River.
Captain Sullenberger's coolness under pressure, decision making process and skill allowed him to make a series of correct decisions that saved the lives of every passenger and the entire crew.
He is the author of Highest Duty, which details the essential qualities that he believes were vital to his success.
He is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and flew F-4s for the Air Force. He became a commercial airline pilot upon leaving the Air Force and amassed over 19,000 hours in different aircraft.
