The Pacific HBO miniseries: WWII - Pacific Action by the U.S. Marine Corps

The Pacific HBO miniseries is the Marine Corps version of Band of Brothers.  The series is based on the books "With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie and focuses on WWII - Pacific actions by the U.S. Marine Corps.

1st Marine Division battles at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu and Okinawa will be highlighted.  Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone's actions on Iwo-Jima will also be featured.  All were key battles in the Pacific Theater of Operations during WWII.

Hugh Ambrose (son of the late Stephen Ambrose) and Captain Dale Dye USMC (Ret) (Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan and Platoon) serve as consultants on the massive project.

The Pacific follows Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment of the 1st Marine Division.  The series tracks the journey of three Marines (Robert Leckie, Eugene Sledge and John Basilone) as they and their fellow Marines fight their way through the fierce battles with the Japanese at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, Okinawa and Iwo Jima.

The Pacific is produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg and involves Bruce McKenna (one of the main writers on Band of Brothers), expect it to be every bit as good as Band of Brothers.
